Fishermen should try to blend in with the environment when they fish. Fish don’t have excellent eye sight but they are not colorblind, so they can easily be spooked if you wear bright colors or anything else that is particularly noticeable. Avoid white and bright colors; choose neutral, muted colors.

Always wade cautiously and carefully. Always be careful and slow when wading in a river. This will not only keep you safe, but it will also help prevent you from making noise that will frighten the fish away. So move slowly and do your best not to disturb the river bed or the river’s inhabitants.

Sunscreen should be on the list of items you bring with you when fishing, regardless of temperature. Frequently, the sun rays are strong over the water, so you should ensure that you will not get sunburn when you are out on the water.

If you’re a beginner fisherman, you may want to start of with bass fishing. Bass aren’t hard to catch because they are very likely to go after bait. Even when you become an expert on bass fishing, you may still want to do it, as the fight they put up can make your fishing experience exciting.

Be aware of weather conditions for while you’re fishing and the rest of your day. It can be very dangerous to travel into a thunderstorm while on the water. Before you go fishing, be sure to check the weather to help you pick the best time and place.

Make sure you know the upper weight limits of your boat before you go into deep water to fish. You definitely don’t want to have the boat tip over, which could be disastrous in deeper waters. Stay well below the weight capacity to maintain the highest level of safety possible.

When deep sea fishing, watch for activity from fish. This may come in the form of debris in the water. It is highly likely that game fish will be loitering in that location as well. Also, if you see seagulls dining on small fish, most likely there are large fish just below the water’s surface.

Keep cool when you hook a big fish. Of course, it will try to escape! That’s to be expected. If a fish is attempting to swim away, do not try to reel it in. Try to relax, allowing your rod’s drag to do the work. One you have set the hook, you must set your drag. Always make sure that your rod is aimed towards the fish at about a 45 degree angle.

After finding the perfect spot to fish, move slightly upstream and cast your line there. Your hook will drag past the fish. The fish will respond better to your bait when it is being moved along by the natural downstream current. This method works especially well if the place where the fish are, is under an obstruction.

If you are wanting to rest while on a fishing trip, you should aim to take this rest during high noon. That is when the sun is at an unfavorable angle and fish are more aware of your presence. Enjoy a leisurely lunch and resume fishing during more favorable light.
